Scan2BIM: Digital Planning

Menschen auf der INTERGEO

and construction based on scan solutions

BIM is an integral part of the national sustainability strategy.

Dr. Josef Kauer, president of BIM-Tage Deutschland, which collaborates with INTERGEO, moderated the "Scan2BIM" topic slot presented on the EXPO Stage. Reality capture, the scanning of the built environment, plays a crucial role in existing building projects. INTERGEO brings together the global elite of the scanning community, leading him to a clear conclusion: "The collaboration with INTERGEO will continue."

Prof. Dr. Steffen Warmbold, Vice President of the Association of Consulting Engineers (BVI), called for more digitalization in construction to happen "as soon as possible."

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is on the way, stated Professor Warmbold, citing an official stance from the German government. The BIM Portal Germany, which provides public clients with information across all project phases, is clear evidence of the government’s commitment to BIM. Warmbold illustrated how BIM is already being implemented in federal highways and by Deutsche Bahn as a standard method. Green BIM is also a key component of the national sustainability strategy. In both infrastructure and high-rise construction, BIM is a guiding model for all project stages, with the goal: "As planned, as built, as is." BIM is increasingly becoming the standard approach in planning and construction, playing a crucial role in decarbonization efforts.

Warmbold sees great potential for Scan2BIM, particularly in the detection of structural damage, such as in bridges. Artificial intelligence will further enhance efficiency in this area.

Both Warmbold and the following speaker, Gregor Willhauck, Cloud Solutions Market Manager at Trimble, emphasized the importance of breaking down data silos and creating integrated solutions. To address this need, Trimble developed Trimble Connect, a platform where 30 million users already manage their workflows today.
